There are many academic and athletic camps offered at Wichita State University during the summer. The following is an up-to-date list of what's available.
What: This is an opportunity for middle school students to explore all WSU has to offer. Students will get a behind-the-scenes look at a WSU athletic facility, participate in a class, explore the campus and hear from current WSU students.
When: 8:30 a.m.-5 p.m. July 10
Where: Check in at the Marcus Welcome Center
Who: Students entering grades 6-8 in the fall with at least a 2.0 GPA

TRIO Upward Bound camps
TRIO Talent Search Middle School Summer Enrichment Program
What: The SEP provides 75 students with supplemental instruction in mathematics, language arts, science, computer technology and study skills. Each week includes motivational speakers and educational field trips. Awards and recognition ceremony is held at the end of the SEP.
When: June 3 - 28 (8th graders); July 8 - 29 (6th-7th graders)
Where: WSU main campus
Who: Eligibility for SEP participation include meeting one or more of the following federal TRIO program requirements; 1) income guidelines (eligible for free school lunches); or, 2) is a potential first generation college student (neither parent has a four-year college degree); or, 3) has an academic need.

WSU Children's Kodaly Choir Camp with Elaine Quilichini
What: A fun-filled week of choral music and summer recreation. Resident housing with meals (day-camp options). WSU employs a trained, full-time resident staff. Call or email about scholarship possibilities.
When: June 9-14, with final concert on the evening of June 14
Where: WSU main campus
Who: Boys and girls, ages 11-16, boys with unchanged voices only.

Cost: $250 for day campers ($225 before May 17); covers tuition, camp T-shirt, swimming and other recreation, art and folk dance classes, lunches and snacks. $425 for residential campers ($395 before May 17); covers tuition, camp T-shirt, bowling, swimming, snacks, housing and all meals. Resident campers will be housed Sunday night through Thursday night in air-conditioned WSU dormitories, double room of same-sex child, with qualified in-house counselors. Single rooms can be reserved for an additional cost. Meals include breakfast, lunch and dinner, beginning with Sunday dinner and ending with Friday lunch. Transportation to and from WSU is not included
These camps are for organized groups of 10 or more, they are not drop-off/pick-up camps.
Summer Youth Program: "LOVE is…"
What: 90-minute tour and make-it/take-it art activity. A bold and colorful symbol, Robert Indiana’s sculpture, LOVE, is recognized around the world. Inspired by this sculpture, kids create their own stamps and iconic word-prints.
When: Throughout June

Who: Ages 5-12 for registered groups of 10 or more

Summer Youth Program: "Masterpiece Mash-up"
What: 90-minute tour and make-it/take-it art activity. What happens when you mix the great masters with contemporary artists’ work from the Ulrich? Masterpiece Mash-ups! Kids create new museum masterpieces using paint, markers, and stencils. Watch out, Leonardo da Vinci!

WSU College of Engineering summer camps are filled with hands-on activities that promote learning, collaboration and fun while introducing students to the science, engineering and technology that is practiced by real engineers. Register early to ensure your place. Registrations received before May 1 will receive a $25 discount. Camp sizes are limited and registration will remain open until camps are full. All camps are half-day camps and students can choose either the morning session or afternoon session. Gateway to Engineering (for students entering 7-9 grade)
What: The Gateway Camp a project based, hands-on camp that will introduce campers to the fundamentals of science, technology, engineering and math in a fun and exciting way. Campers will use leading-edge technologies to sample such disciplines as robotics, aeronautics, rockets, eco-design, manufacturing and alternative energy.
When: 8:30 a.m.-noon or 1-4:30 p.m. June 3-7

Who: Students entering grades 7-9

Green Engineering (for girls entering 5-7 grade)
What: Campers will investigate the impact of energy on our lives and the environment as they use alternative energy sources in order to reduce energy consumption. Campers will have the opportunity to see how changing their ecological footprint will help to create a brighter future for all of us. Campers will explore solar energy in order to understand one method of using the power of the sun to provide transportation, harnessing the wind in order to create electricity, and discover ways to clean up an oil spill.

Engineering with LEGO Robots (for students in grades 4-6)
What: Come explore the world of robotics using the LEGO NXT kit. Campers will build robots with motors and sensors to perform tasks and respond to their environment. Once they have mastered the fundamentals, their robots will compete on challenging courses. Learn about basic programming, problem solving and teamwork. There are sections for both beginner and advanced robotics students.
When: 8:30 a.m.-noon or 1-4:30 p.m. June 17-21

Engineering with LEGO Robots (for students in grades 6-8)
What: This camp is for students who want to learn how to build, program and run LEGO robots through a series of competitions. This is an opportunity to expand students’ understanding of robots in sensing and responding to their environment. The camp will be mostly hands-on with campers building LEGO robots and modifying the robots for different environments. There are sections for both beginner and advanced robotics students. The camp will culminate in a competition with actual courses from the Shocker MINDSTORMS competition.

Game Design and Programming (for students entering grades 6-8)
What: Go beyond just playing video games, learn to make the games! You will have opportunities to learn principles of game design and programming through the use of various game design/development environments, with the primary focus being the GameMaker system. No matter your level, whether novice or with some experience in game design, we will help you hone and develop your skills and maybe even expand your horizons into other game design systems!
When: 8:30 a.m.-noon July 15-19
