Jorge Banuelos Jr., electrical engineering, Wichita High School East, Kansas

Jorge BanuelosJorge is the son of Sequana Kimbrel. He is an IB diploma candidate, a drummer for the East High Jazz Band, as well as a member of the Students Against Prejudice Club and Tri-M club. Jorge has performed at a number of benefit concerts with his jazz combo, Mood Swings, for various causes such as the Nepal earthquake and the Kansas Humane Society. Jorge enjoys spending his time analyzing hip-hop lyrics, reading 20th century literature, exploring existentialist writing and playing with “Tubby,” his 4-year-old brother. Jorge looks forward to studying abroad and the more intimate learning environment that Honors will offer.

Mattie Bivens, computer engineering, Duncan High School, Oklahoma

Mattie BivensMattie is the daughter of Jennifer and Jason Bivens. She is the head drum major and an All-State French Horn player in the Duncan High School Band, pianist for the Duncan High School Jazz Band, and Duncan High School Percussion Ensemble member. She is the center midfielder for the Duncan Girls soccer team and an All-State cross country runner and state track medalist.

Mattie enjoys volunteering at Duncan Regional Hospital and plans to use her biomedical and computer engineering degrees to design and innovate prosthetic limbs and robotic surgery units. She is looking forward to meeting new people who share her interest in learning and helping others.

Connor Devlin, economics, Wichita Collegiate School, Kansas

Connor DevlinConnor is the son of Shawn and Cathy Devlin. He has been a youth leader at his school's Young Life club, and enjoys helping others to discover the sport of tennis.

Connor is most looking forward to getting a great education from an outstanding business program while getting the individualized attention and support he will need as a student athlete participating on Wichita State men's tennis.

He plans to study law after graduating from Wichita State and is interested in personal injury/settlement law and in business/corporate law.

Sydney Finney, computer engineering, Maize High School, Kansas

Sydney FinneySydney is the daughter of Gary Dean Finney and Lori Ruth Eck. She is involved in the Drama Club, choir, Chemistry Club, National Honors Society and started the Film Club. In addition, she is in Big Brothers Big Sisters, which allows her to give back to the community.

She is looking forward to joining the Wichita State Honors community, inspiring her to excel in classes as well.

Sydney plans to join the Peace Corps and serve in southeastern Europe for two years, then pursue a master’s while simultaneously working as a computer engineer in Ireland.

Jack Hale, computer science, Wichita High School East, Kansas

Jack HaleJack is the son of John and Brooke Hale. He serves as vice president of the East Conservation Organization (ECO), is a staff member of Science Olympiad and is in French National Honor Society.

Jack participates in the East High soccer team, Model UN, theater, International Baccalaureate Program at Wichita High School East, and is a recipient of the AP Scholar Award.

In addition to athletics and academics, Jack enjoys video games, creating fun and sometimes educational videos with friends, and coding computer programs. Jack believes Honors will continue to feed his desire for challenging himself as well as a desire to learn as much as possible. He plans to work in computer science or computer engineering, as well as pursue fun and interesting projects with current and future friends.

Sidney Hose, mechanical engineering, Blue Springs High School, Missouri

Sid HoseSidney is the son of Nathan and Tara Hose. He is the senior captain of Blue Springs High School cross country team and second chair alto saxophone in the Blue Springs High School Wind Symphony.

He has participated in Technology Student Association (TSA), Biology Club and Character Builders. Sidney enjoys serving as a tutor for Kindergarten through 2nd grade throughout the Blue Springs School District. He is most looking forward to working with highly motivated students and creating something worthwhile.

Sidney plans to go into mechanical engineering and be a leader in the engineering community.

Aidan Jude, electrical engineering and computer science, Maple Lake High School, Minnesota

Aidan JudeAidan is the son of David and Nicole Jude. He has held leadership roles of student body president and Student Council president as well as varsity golf captain at Maple Lake High School.

He is involved with the Maple Lake Honor Society, Maple Lake Irish Mentor Volunteer Program, MN Junior PGA Tour and American Legion Boys State. Aidan enjoys giving back to his community as a volunteer in the Irish Mentors group in a multitude of capacities.

He is looking forward to working with other WSU students in the Honors program because of a common dedication to academics and a drive to learn.

Aidan plans to pursue a career in the energy field or telecommunications.

Zubair Khan, computer engineering, Wichita High School East, Kansas

Zubair KhanZubair is the son of Mahbub and Afroza Khan. He has held many leadership positions in school and the community including president of Students Against Prejudice, vice president of Muslim Club, vice president of Asian Club, treasurer of Model UN, treasurer of Cricket Club and secretary of the Wichita Bengali Youth Committee.

He also is a member of the debate and forensics team, East Conservation organization, Young Democrats Club, National Honor Society, Spanish Honor Society, Tennis, DECA, Interact Club and Young Community Activists.

He particularly enjoys raising money for the Rana Plaza building collapse with The Wichita Bangladesh youth committee. He created t-shirts and sold them to raise money for the families who were affected by the building collapse.

Zubair is looking forward to having phenomenal professors who can help him throughout college in the classroom and with research. Following graduation at WSU he plans to work in computer programming or to attend law school.

Lucas Webb, engineering, Northeast Magnet School, Kansas

Lucas WebbLucas is the son of Joleen and Larry Webb. He is an executive council member of International Thespian Society and participates in the African American Club, STUCO, National Honor Society, the Mayor’s Youth Council and the Kansas Young Democrats.

He enjoys being a part of Junior Jumpstart with Mayor’s Youth Council, because it is not only the kids that learn something from the council, but the council members get to spend time with kids from around the district and learn from them as well.

At Wichita State, Lucas is mostly looking forward to being surrounded by people who are also very driven to reach their full potential. He would like to earn a degree in mechanical engineering and technical theater and work professionally as an engineer.
