Preparing Educators Together
WSU/Butler/Cowley: A Partnership that is making a DIFFERENCE!

Students taking a PET class in our latest state-of-the-art Interactive Distance Learning Facility that allows the PET program cohort of 38 students spread among three cities to attend classes in the three locations and interact with each other via hi-def video and audio feeds. Students and instructors alike just love the high-tech classroom! |
Students who want to pursue an elementary or secondary teaching license can now complete Wichita State University coursework at a Cowley campus (Mulvane/Ark City) or Butler campus in Andover beginning each fall semester. This is made possible through a WSU partnership with the two community colleges called the "PET program". The “PET” program helps students in both regions limit commuting time by not having to travel to Wichita as often for required coursework.
Thanks to interactive television technology, many, but not all, of the WSU courses are delivered to students at the Cowley campuses as well as the Butler campus in Andover. The secondary program in particular, will require students to attend courses on the main WSU campus for a minimum of two semesters. While the majority of elementary courses will be available at Cowley or Butler, there are
some courses that require attendance at the main campus. The culminating student-teaching semester for either teaching program may be completed in a school district located in the geographic areas served by those community colleges.
All WSU coursework being offered on Cowley or Andover campuses will require students to pay the WSU tuition and fees. Courses are taught at times and through delivery methods that are convenient to the working adult or stay-at-home parent, with courses typically beginning after 4 p.m. or offered online. However, students must complete a field experience (3 to 5 hours per week) during normal school hours.
Before a student can participate in the "PET" program, certain requirements must be completed in addition to admission into Wichita State University:
• Submission of Teacher Education Packet and acceptance into the program. See the following link for requirements: www.wichita.edu/education
• Appointment with a WSU advisor
• Completion of Math 501: (for Elementary majors only)
• Background check
• Negative TB test
