For the 12th season, the WSU
Distinguished Alumni Speaker Series offers eye-opening
lectures and
mouth-watering breakfast buffets at the Marcus Welcome Center on Wichita
State’s beautiful campus. Breakfasts
begin at 7:30
a.m. with presentations starting at 8. The
informal lectures are followed by a question-and-answer period, before
wrapping up at about 8:30. The 2008-09 series
spotlights these Shocker personalities:

Eric sexton
Thu., September 18
WSU’s former executive director uer
for government relations and board of trustees, Eric Sexton ’87/92,
is the university’s 17th athletic director since 1939. A key Wichita
State administrator with 18 years of experience in building
relationships, he was a standout Shocker golfer during his
undergraduate years. |
Stan Herd
Thu., February 5
After establishing his career
with oil and watercolor painting, Stan Herd fs ’69 returned to his
agricultural roots to pioneer an art form called crop art. This mode
of artistic expression involves manipulating plants, soil and rock
to create forms on a grand scale. His earthwork ventures have
promoted a wide array of high-profile projects, from the movie
“Signs” to Monster.com. |

Tue., October 7
Gary Bender ’62 is a
veteran sportscaster for several major networks and the author of
“Call of the Game,” a book about what really goes on in the
broadcasting booth. Bender, who began his career calling University
of Kansas football and basketball games in the 1960s, is the current
play-by-play man for the Phoenix Suns. |

Thu., March 26
Sonia Greteman ’82 has built her
Wichita-based branding agency, Greteman Group, into an industry
leader. Since founding the firm in 1989, she’s developed a team that
offers full marketing, advertising, PR, interactive and
environmental support. Clients — from Fortune 500 companies to
start-up entrepreneurs — span the globe. Her firm, about to
celebrate its 20th anniversary, has just launched its new Altitude
Attitude brand. |

marc ostertag
Thu., November 6
A fighter pilot with some 4,000
hours and 1,000 carrier landings, Capt. Marc Ostertag II ’66, Navy
(Ret.), posted a career that spanned meritorious service in Vietnam
to Desert Storm. For his final tour of duty, he commanded the
aircraft carrier USS Constellation. He also has worked with
Raytheon’s Integrated Defense Systems as director of the Navy
Aircraft Carrier Program and liaison to the United Kingdom’s Defense
Ministry Naval Aircraft Carrier Division, and now works part time
for the Tailhook Association. |
Steve
Clark
Fri., April 24
Active in many aspects of the
real estate industry and trade groups for more than 45 years, Steve
Clark ’65 has developed, owned and managed investment property in
some 25 states. The 2001 WSU Achievement Award honoree and member of
the National Advisory Council, Clark has been a real estate
columnist for a chain of business newspapers and conducted scores of
real estate seminars. |
