About the Artist: Born in Corpus Christi, Texas, Jesus Moroles attended North Texas State University. Graduating in 1978, he entered the workshop of Luis Jimenez, Jr., where he worked until 1980. That year, the younger sculptor left for Italy; during a visit to the marble quarries in Carrara, Moroles was struck by the long tradition of marble carving in the Western tradition. The artist returned to Texas shortly later, committed to working in stone. Looking to the work of Isamu Noguchi (1904-88) for inspiration, Moroles began using wedge-like tools to split stone...
