A diligent accountant, two student advisers, the man behind WSU's secure Web site, a researcher who's helping solve problems of jet cabin noise, a librarian who finds ways to make the library function better, and two faculty members who embody service to the university were among the nine employees honored with President's Distinguished Service Awards in an annual campus celebration last week.

With the increase in spam e-mail and viruses, University Computing and Telecommunication Services is testing a spam filter and has started a new virus alert system.

To lessen your computer's vulnerability to viruses or worms, Steve Dickerson of UCATS offers a number of tips. The tips apply to those using PCs, the prime targets. Macintosh and Linux machines, which make up a smaller market share of personal computers, are usually not targeted.
