WSU's Alumni Association and athletics are joining forces to host one big fund-raising gala Nov. 6 to benefit WSU students and programs.

Rockin' the Roundhouse, which will run from 6-11:30 p.m. in Charles Koch Arena, will replace the Alumni Association's long-running Shocker Auction and athletics' Shocktacular fund-raiser, which started in 2000. Shocker Auction had been running for nearly a quarter-century. 

Rockin' the Roundhouse will help many WSU Alumni Association and athletic department programs, including student scholarships, alumni records, publications, student athletes' academic programs and career services, according to organizers.

While faculty and staff are being encouraged to attend, they also can help the fund-raiser through donations for the auction, says Debbie Kennedy, interim alumni coordinator who has been a nursing instructor at WSU since 1994. Faculty and staff can offer their handiwork, skills or talents as items to be bid upon in an auction.

Two faculty members who've already donated their talents are Don Byrum of the School of Art and Design and Scott Wiggins, a part-time dentist with WSU's Dental Hygiene Clinic. Byrum is donating a lithograph, while Wiggins, who plays with the band Amayia, is offering his band's services. Gala-goers will have a chance to hear Amayia play during the event's socializing segment, from 6-8:30 p.m., when food, entertainment, games and a silent auction will be on tap.

Tickets for the event cost $85, with $60 of that being tax-deductible. You can purchase tickets online at www.rnrwsu.com until Nov. 1.

The complete schedule for Rockin' the Roundhouse is:
• 6-8:30 p.m. — socializing with food from 25 restaurants, entertainment by six bands including Amayia and the faculty group Hillside Blues, silent auction and games
• 8:30-9 p.m. — entertainment with the band 3 Ring Circus
• 9-10 p.m. — auction
• 10-11:30 p.m. — more entertainment and dancing with 3 Ring Circus
