In the past few years, WSU employees have more than tripled the amount of financial support they give to the university during the WSU Foundation's annual fund drive.
Last year, WSU employees gave more than $25,000, which accounted for 6 percent of the total raised for the foundation's Annual Fund for Excellence. In 2000, the faculty and staff contributed little more than $7,900. WSU employee donations have increased every year since.
And the number of gifts has increased each year, too. In 2000, 174 gifts were received. By last year, FY 2004, 523 were received. The foundation started its internal campaign in fall 1999, FY 2000. The internal portion of the Annual Fund for Excellence is currently under way for this year.
The Annual Fund for Excellence is primarily an annual telephone campaign to alumni. The money, which provides unrestricted financial support, can fund faculty development, update technology and provide student scholarships.
Contributions to the annual fund are tax-deductible, and 100 percent of the gift supports the area designated by the donor. Employees may use payroll deduction to donate.
