27th paycheck affects employees this year

While state officials have to worry about funding an extra pay period next fiscal year, state employees will actually be affected this year by the extra pay period.
A story in the Nov. 4 print issue of Inside WSU erroneously reported that state employees will receive a 27th paycheck next year. However, the extra pay period will fall in this calendar year, according to Mike Turner, director of human resources. Employees will receive their 27th paycheck on Dec. 30. "As a result of this extra paycheck, your tax liability may be greater this year," Turner noted in a memo to benefit-eligible employees.
No deductions will be taken from the extra paycheck for group health insurance, Campus Credit Union and flexible spending account distributions. Certain other deductions, such as parking and retirement contributions, will be taken.
