What's in a name?

When violist Katherine Murdock appears with the Los Angeles Piano Quartet this month on campus, she might make an interesting connection with one of WSU's faculty members, Katherine A. Murdock, professor of musicology and composition for the School of Music.
The folks at Inside WSU couldn't resist asking.

WSU faculty member Katherine A. Murdock is often confused with another Katherine Murdock in the music world. The "other" Katherine Murdock will play in a recital Feb. 13. |
"I have heard of her," said WSU's Murdock, with a laugh, "and it's not me."
"Actually, we've both heard of each other, and we are often confused," Murdock continued. "People will ask me about my viola playing, and I don't play viola. She gets asked about composition, and that's not her."
Murdock said that's one reason she uses her middle name, Ann.
Ironically, the two Murdocks have never met in person.
"Maybe I can meet her while she's here," said Murdock.
