Family, friends, former teammates and survivors of the 1970 plane crash in Colorado that took the lives of 31 players, administrators and boosters, en route to a game in Utah, gathered Oct. 1-2 for two special events in remembrance of the tragedy. Top, about 175 people attended the Sunday morning event during which the names of those lost were read and remembered with a rose ceremony. Middle left, team member Bill Burch points out one of the players who died in the crash to his fiancée, Karen Hill. Middle right, David Lewis, one of eight survivors, places a rose in remembrance of his fellow team member John R. Taylor. This was Lewis' first time participating in the annual ceremony. Left, a football helmet and a framed collage of Coach Ben Wilson's locker nameplate and his photos was placed by his daughter Elizabeth Winterbone at the bottom of the Memorial '70 structure on campus, where the names of the crash vicitims are engraved. |
