New Wu

Sporting a less top-heavy head and weighing several pounds less, the new WuShock mascot was unveiled at the Shocker Madness celebration Oct.  14. The WuShock mascot underwent a makeover during the summer to make it more agile, comfortable and closer in looks to the WuShock logo. The redesign resulted in a costume weighing 12 pounds, half the weight of the old one. The old WuShock head alone weighed 12 pounds; the new one weighs five pounds. The new head is also about nine inches shorter so it's less top-heavy for the performer. The redesign also included a cooling creature comfort: a new cooling vest that will keep the performer cool for three hours. Before the unveiling, a video spoofing Wu's makeover was played, showing him getting a haircut and hitting the weight room. Tryouts were recently held to find two individuals who will share the duties of wearing the new costume and generating crowd enthusiasm for the upcoming Shocker men's and women's basketball seasons.
