Information about Medical Insurance

Wichita State University requires that all international students have medical insurance. The cost of medical care in the U.S. is very expensive so we want to make sure that you are covered by insurance in the event of illness, pregnancy, or serious injury. You will be automatically charged for medical insurance when you arrive unless you can provide proof of medical insurance coverage from another provider. The cost of Wichita State’s medical insurance is about US$582 per year and is included in the estimated expenses to attend Wichita State University. If you would prefer to use another insurance company that provides you with equal or greater coverage, you may certainly use a different medical insurance company while you are attending Wichita State. If you decide to purchase medical insurance through a provider in your country, we will need to see proof of your medical insurance coverage when you arrive in Wichita. This proof must include:

  1. The amounts covered with your policy
  2. The dates of your coverage
  3. A telephone number or fax number of the company so we can contact them if we need to
  4. Medical conditions covered and excluded (this is automatically provided by most insurance companies)

As mentioned earlier, most international students purchase the medical insurance coverage offered through Wichita State University. The company that provides this coverage is called Student Assurance Services. For detailed information about what is covered in this policy, please click here
