1. A single copy may be made of only one chapter from a book.
2. A single copy may be made of only one article from a periodical or newspaper.
3. A single copy may be made of only one short story, one essay, or one short poem from an anthology.
4. Multiple copies may be made of poems or excerpts from poems up to 250 words.
5. Multiple copies of a complete article, story or essay may be made only if the work does not exceed 2,500 words.
6. Multiple copies of a prose excerpt may be made only if the excerpt is not more than 1,000 words or ten percent of the work, whichever is less.
7. Multiple copies of sheet music may be made only if the excerpt would not constitute a performable unit (section, movement or aria) or ten percent of the work.
8. A copyright notice must appear on every excerpt.
