7.19 / Political Activity
OHR is responsible for the dissemination of information and guidance
relating
to state restrictions on an employee's political activity. Kansas
law states that classified employees may serve in an elected office on
a nonpartisan basis. Any officer or employee in the state
classified
service shall resign from the service prior to taking the oath of
office
for a state elective office. Participation in partisan politics
on
another's behalf is permitted after work hours but use of official
influence
to coerce other employees to participate in any way on political
activity
is prohibited.
