Preamble:
In order to make certain that non-immigrant international students
attending Wichita State University have access to adequate medical care
and to provide sufficient financial resources for such students to be
able
to afford such medical care and to address a possible need to return to
their home country, it is deemed appropriate that non-immigrant
international
students be required to maintain minimum levels of insurance
protection.
Policy Statement:
1. Wichita State University requires that all non-immigrant international students have a specified minimum amount of medical insurance protection for every semester they are enrolled as a student at Wichita State University.
2. Each non-immigrant international student must obtain and
maintain
medical insurance, from a company authorized to do business in the
United
States, with the following minimum coverages:
| a. | Basic injury and sickness benefits amounting to at least $10,000; | |
| b. | Major medical coverage in an amount of at least $100,000; | |
| c. | Coverage to provide for medical evacuation of the student to the student's home country; and | |
| d. | Coverage to provide for repatriation of the student's remains to the student's home country in case of death. |
3. Failure to obtain and maintain such coverages during the student's time of enrollment will be grounds for discipline up to and including expulsion.
Implementation:
This policy shall be included in the WSU Policies and Procedures
Manual and shared with appropriate constituencies of the
University.
The Vice President for Campus Life and University Relations shall have primary responsibilty for publication, dissemination and implementation of this University policy.
