APPENDICES

Appendices can be used to represent supplementary materials which (a) are necessary for completeness but which, if inserted in the main body of your paper, would detract from the orderly and logical presentation of the work, or (b) may well be omitted by the general reader, but would be valuable for the specialist in the field.

A general reference book on scientific writing may be useful. The most extensive reference is the CBE Style Manual, prepared by a committee of the Council of Biology Editors and published by the American Institute of Biological Sciences, Washington, DC.

The American Chemical Society has a Handbook for Authors and the American Institute on Physics publishes a Style Manual.

Styles differ somewhat between the different disciplines. If you are in doubt as to style, examine papers in back issues of the Transactions of the Academy of Science for ideas and help in your paper presentation. The Transactions closely follow the CBE Style Manual. You may also refer to the publication Award-Winning Papers put out by the KJAS to see examples of last year's state winning papers.
