Computer Numerically Controlled (otherwise known as CNC) devices use a computer to give instruction to a machine on how to perform its task. CNC devices translate the plans drawn up by the draftsman. They control devices in three dimensions. The CNC plasma torch takes information from the computer processor and uses it to cut out parts from 4 ft by 8 ft sheets of steel plate. The steel may be anywhere from 1/4 in thick to over 1 in thick. The computer can automatically determine the most efficient way to cut the needed parts from the sheet of metal. Welders create sub-assemblies for complex parts.
