Metal Shear

A shear is used to cut pieces of metal to the correct length. A large shear is used to cut large pieces of sheet metal. A smaller shear is used to cut steel bars to the correct length. Powerful hydraulic cylinders supply the energy needed to cut the metal.

Sheet metal parts are not all flat. In order to put angles in the metal, a device which breaks (another word for bending) the metal will be used.

Some machines which do this are relatively small and rely on the strength of the operator to bend the metal. Others are larger and use hydralics to bend the metal.

More specialized tools exist for producing the more complex parts.
