Life Story of A Star

Compare the two views of the Orion Nebula above. The visible light image (left) shows the luminous gas and a few stars (the dense blob in the middle is actually several overexposed stars). The second view was taken in infrared light. Infrared light, which is much better at passing through the nebula, reveals the locations of many more stars and protostars.
