Current grades -  Excel 2003 spreadsheet - Updated 12/15/2011

Special Announcements

December 15 - Final grades are in.  Thanks for a great semester.

December 6 - The notes from today have been updated, as has the grades spreadsheet.  Remember, the final next week will be all multiple-choice.  If you want to meet with me before Tuesday, please e-mail me to make an appointment.

December 1 - I just updated the grades spreadsheet.  Please make sure that every score you think you've earned is reflected correctly.

November 22 - The notes from today's class are now posted.  I encourage you to begin working on the next homework assignment right away.  It may be challenging, and having extra "percolation" time may be helpful.

Have a wonderful Thanksgiving.

November 17 - Today's Smartboard notes are now posted.

November 15 - The discussion from today, along with the homework solutions, are now posted.

November 10 - Today's lecture notes, along with the corrected homework assignment have just been posted.  The solutions for the homework due today are up as well.

November 9 - Sorry for not getting yesterday's notes posted until this morning.  I also updated the grades spreadsheet and posted solutions to the midterm exam.

November 1 - Today's Smartboard notes are now posted.  I also posted a corrected solution to part b of homework 8, and an updated grades spreadsheet.

The midterm exam on Thursday will consist of one long problem and a handful of multiple-choice/true-false questions.

October 27 - As discussed in class, make sure you practice the after-tax investment analysis problems again and again.  Get to the point that you can solve them in 40-45 minutes and you should be fine for the exam.

October 26 - I just posted updated solutions to the taxation practice problems.  These PDF solution files contain detailed information about how each figure in the problem is calculated.  I hope you find that helpful.

October 25 - Today's Smartboard notes have been posted.  Make sure you spend the time necessary on the homework assignment for Thursday.  It will pay huge dividends for you when you take the exam.

October 13 - The link to the solutions for homework #7 has been fixed.  Also the SmartBoard notes from today have been updated on the Lectures page.  Remember, there is no class on the 20th.  I will see you next on Tuesday the 25th.

October 10 - I must be out of town tomorrow and Dr. Craft will once again be in my place.  We will continue to discuss taxation of real estate investments.

October 4 - I just posted solutions to the homework assignment that was due today, as well as the first midterm exam.

October 3 - I just posted the grades from the first midterm.  I will pass them back in class tomorrow.

September 29 - As discussed in class today, I have updated the course schedule.  The next homework assignment is due this coming Tuesday.  Note the other revisions to the schedule as well.

September 22 - As requested, I posted the spreadsheet I used in class today on the Lectures page, along with the updated Smartboard notes.  See you for the exam on Tuesday.

September 21 - Sorry.  NOW the Smartboard notes for the Valuation III lecture notes are on the website.  (The HW5 notes were already posted on the Homeworks page.)

September 20 - Today's Smartboard notes (both from HW5 and the Valuation III lecture) are now posted.

September 15 - The Smartboard notes from today are now posted.  We will discuss HW5 on Tuesday, and then begin the Valuation III lecture notes.

September 13 - Today's notes are posted.  As we discussed in class, the first exam will STAY on Tuesday, September 27.  The Estimating Reversion Values homework is due this Thursday.

September 6 - Today's Smartboard notes are now on the Lecutres page.  I have also posted solutions for the first two homework assignments.  Notice that the schedule has been revised as  well, and we will begin the Valuation II lecture notes on Tuesday.

Note also that I have moved up two of the homework assignments and I'm considering whether we should move up the first exam.  We can discuss that on Tuesday, after we see how far we get with that material.

September 1  - Oh, in case you wanted to know what Al Gore dancing looks like, you can see it here http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wn1BtRsedSE

September 1 - The Smartboard notes from today and last week are now posted on the Lectures page.  In addition, I have corrected the dates on the homework assignment.  I expect I will begin discussing the Valuation I lectures notes on Tuesday, so you should bring these to class with you.  Note that I also posted a revised homework assignment on effective rent (to be discussed Tuesday).  If you already downloaded the homework assignments for the semester, you will have to re-download this.

August 23 - I just posted the SmartBoard notes from today on the Lectures page.  I also added an announcement to the RE618 page on BlackBoard.  Would someone enrolled in Fin618 let me know if they can see this announcement?  I'm trying to figure out the new course merge system and make sure it is working properly.  Thanks.

August 1 - Welcome to Real Estate Investment Analysis.  This web site will contain the most up-to-date information about this course.  When in doubt about when an assignment is due or when an exam will be given, the information on this web site will be the final authority.  (Don't forget to press your "refresh" button to make sure you get the latest info.)

As you prepare for the first day of class, there are a couple of points to note:

  • Lecture outlines for most of the class are posted in the lectures section.  These are intended for you to print and bring to class for taking notes.  I suggest, however, that you wait until the night before class to print each set of notes, as I may modify them between now and then.
  • Make sure you bring your financial calculator to class every day; we will use it regularly.
