Dr. Alicia Huckstadt    

    Dr. Alicia Huckstadt is a Family Nurse Practitioner and Geriatric Nurse Practitioner. She is a Full Professor, School of Nursing, Wichita State University. She has an active faculty practice and has taught at the graduate nursing level for over 20 years. She has a Ph.D. in nursing from the University of Colorado and a Ph.D. in education from Kansas State University. She completed a two-year NINR postdoctoral fellowship with the University of Colorado, School of Nursing.

    Dr. Huckstadt has worked in Surgical Intensive Care and in Medical/Surgical acute care areas. Her first teaching position was in Alcohol Education and Training through a grant at Wichita State University. This position took her across the country teaching health care professionals and counselors about alcoholism and emergency care. It was this first teaching position that most impacted her professional life. Some twenty years later, the excitement of helping people learn is unmatched.

    Dr. Huckstadt and her husband have one son, 9 years old, one dog and a love of nature and animals. Family times that are most cherished always seem to include all of those elements.

 

Dr. Karen Hayes

    Dr. Hayes is an Assistant Professor of Nursing in the Acute Care Nurse Practitioner program with a dual certification as an FNP and an ACNP. She began her nursing career in the Army Nurse Corps and retired as a Lieutenant Colonel in the Army Reserves. Dr. Hayes has held a variety of positions in Critical Care and Emergency nursing. She has been a Clinical Nurse Specialist and Trauma Nurse Coordinator at the University of Kansas Medical Center, and faculty at St. Louis University, Missouri Western State College of Nursing, and now at Wichita State University. In addition to her faculty position, Dr. Hayes participates in faculty practice as an ACNP at Via Christi Regional Medical Center ED, and is a Family Nurse Practitioner for Ashley Clinic in Yates Center, Kansas.

    Dr. Hayes received her Bachelor's of Science in Nursing from the University of Virginia, her Master's in Nursing from the University of Kansas and her Doctorate in Nursing from the University of Missouri-Columbia. 

    Family is an important part of Dr. Hayes' life. She and her husband Mike have three children and a golden retriever.  Her husband Mike is a college basketball coach. Her youngest son Greg, age 13, is an avid basketball player. Ana, age 17, is a high school Junior and throws discus for the track team. Twenty year old son, Mark, attends Kansas State University and loves shooting sports and hunting.
