Requirements for a Physics B.S. degree with honors.
Physics Courses:
- General College Physics I & II (213 & 214) or University
Physics I & II (313 with 315 lab & 314 with 316 lab)
- Advanced Physics Laboratory (516), Electronics (517) and
Computational Physics Laboratory (616)
- Topics in Modern Physics (551)
- Elementary Mechanics (621)
- Electricity and Magnetism (631)
- Thermal Physics (641)
- Quantum Mechanics (651)
- 8 additional upper division hours in physics, of which
at least 3 hours must be in advanced study in one of the three core areas of
E&M, Elementary Mechanics, or Quantum Mechanics. Phys 395, 501, or 502 may
not be counted for this degree.
A GPA of at least 3.5 in the courses listed above is
required
Other courses:
- Calculus I, II, & III (242Q, 243, & 344)
- Ordinary Differential Equations with Linear Algebra (555)
- Linear Algebra (511)
- 10 hours of chemistry is also required.
Research:
A senior project in physics research with a physics
professor, written up as a thesis and defended is required.
Miscellaneous:
Taking the honors section of the introductory sequence
(213-214 or 313/315-314/316) is encouraged but not required.
