Elizabeth:
AVP Shawver today forwarded your report regarding the Faculty Senate and our proposal to include POLS 220 as an introductory general education course. I had informally learned of the situation earlier today and emailed Prof. York a proposition that political science petition to have POLS 101G dropped as an introductory general education course and POLS 220 substituted, thereby maintaining our count of three introductory general education courses. He has not had time to respond.
Since then, however, I have verified that POLS 101G has been cancelled as a course. So, in fact, we only have two such courses available, and POLS 220 would be a third, which does not exceed the number we have previously offered. That being the case, I request that the course be taken to the Senate for approval as an introductory general education course and that the Senate be informed of the cancellation and of that cancellation's clearing the way for Senate consideration.
If you have any questions regarding this matter, or if you have any suggestions which might expedite
completion of this review process, I welcome them. Thank you for your assistance in this matter.
