Title: Credit/Non-Credit policy at Wichita State

WHEREAS: Wichita State University is an institution dedicated to helping students expand their education and broaden their scope of knowledge; and
WHEREAS, taking classes outside one's declared major and general education requirements enhances one's education; and
WHEREAS, students should be allowed to take classes outside their majors and general education courses above and beyond requirements for graduation without having it negatively affect their grade point average; now therefore
BE IT RESOLVED, that the Student Government Association of Wichita State University recommends that the Faculty Senate, in conjunction with the University Administration, adopt a policy of Credit/Non-Credit, where Credit will be given to students who would otherwise have received at least a grade of C; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that students will be allowed to take classes outside their majors and general education requirements above and beyond the requirements of graduation(i.e.Credit/Non-credit courses will not count toward hours for graduation) for Credit/Non-Credit as opposed to a letter grade; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that undergraduates will be limited to ten (10) hours outside their majors and general education requirements of Credit/Non-Credit classes throughout their entire academic careers at Wichita State University, not including any Cooperative Education or Internship hours; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that in order to exercise the Credit/Non-Credit policy a student must be enrolled in at least twelve (12) credit hours not counting the Credit/Non-Credit courses, and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Dr. Donald Beggs, President of Wichita State University; Dr. John Hutchinson, Vice President Academic Affairs and Research; Dr. Ronald Kopita, Vice President of Campus Life and University Relations; Dr. Cheryl Anderson, Dean of Students; Dr. Chris Brooks, President of Faculty Senate; and The Sunflower, student newspaper of Wichita State University.
