Summary of Action:

    1.  Accepted the nomination of Bill Jarnagin, Senator representing W Frank Barton School of Business, Accountancy

    2.  Accepted the following to Faculty Senate Committees:

                Rules -- Stephanie Thibeault (Fine Arts-- appt ends '07), Walter Horn (Engineering -- appt. ends '08)

                Undergraduate Research --  Peter Zoller (Humanities -- appt. ends '08), Robert Bubp (Fine Arts -- appt. ends '08) and Kim MacDowell (Education -- appt. ends '07)

                University Admissions --  Joanne Levin (Social Sciences)

                Center for Excellence in Teaching & Research Advisory Council --  Rajiv Bagai (appt. ends '08)
    3.  Accepted the following statement for Blackboard Disclaimer --  "Papers submitted in this class may be reviewed by SafeAssignment, a plagiarism detection service"

    4.  Accepted the following statement --  "Due to occasional financial abuses, Instructors are strongly urged not to return any graded assignment to anyone not on the class roster"

 

I.       Call of the Meeting to Order President Brooks called the meeting to order at 3:30 pm.
 

II.    Informal Statements & Proposals:
Senator Billings and Lancaster spoke about the Butler County Community College advertisement in the WSU Telephone directory.  Senator Billings presented her research into how an ad can be placed, and who is in charge of the Directory for WSU.  President Brooks informed the Senate that VPAAR Hutchinson said that this problem would not happen again.  After much discussion the Senate requested that a Task Force be formed to investigate WSU Public Relations Image and related matters.  Senators Billings, Vanderburgh, Taher, Dooley and Loftus volunteered for the task force. 
Senator Roussel requested information about incentives for faculty who will be teaching at the West Side Center.  She also mentioned that the Students Promoting An Active and Responsible Community ((SPARC) will be hosting a re-cycling information booth November 15-- National Recycling Day.
 

III. Approval of the minutes Minutes of the meeting October 10, 2005, accepted as corrected

 

IV.  President’s Report:  
President Brooks presented an update on various Faculty Senate Policies that the Executive Committee is working to have passed and accepted for the Handbook --- the Faculty statement on chronic Low Performance, revisions to the Chair Policy and Grievance Policy, the revisions to the Tenure and Promotion policy.  He noted that X/F will be delayed until the banner is ready.  He also informed the Senate that SGA and Faculty Senate are hosting a debate about TABOR to be held in Hubbard, 208, 5:00pm, November 29, 2005

A.  Blackboard Safe Assignment Disclaimer --
After discussion Senator Billings (Senator Close --2nd) moved acceptance of the statement developed by AAOC --  "Papers submitted in this class may be reviewed by SafeAssignment, a plagiarism detection service"    Senate accepted.
B.  Forbidding Student to "sit in" classes --  After much discussion, Senator Klunder moved (Loftus 2nd) that "Due to occasional financial abuses, Instructors are strongly urged not to return any graded assignment to anyone not on the class roster".   Senate accepted.

            C.  Faculty Senate Committees quorum --  the Senate clarified that to have a quorum to conduct business the majority of those present must be faculty.
