Call of the Meeting to
Order:
President Klunder called the meeting to order at
3:30 pm.
II.
Informal Statements &
Proposals:
Senator Brooks reported on a
the problems for a graduate student who had not handed in his SPTE. He expressed
concern about forcing a GTA to give up their SPTE’s.
III. Approval of the minutes: Minutes of February 28, 2005, accepted as presented
IV.
President’s Report:
President Klunder said that the Board of Regents meeting this
week would consider concurrent enrollment and budget issues.
V. Committee Reports:
A. Academic Affairs - Joyce Cavarozzi, chair, presented the proposed
new degree in Forensic Science. After discussion, the proposal was approved.
B.
Rules -- Chris Brooks, chair, reported from the Rules committee that ballots
will be sent. Business, Art and Design and Music still need candidates
VI. Old Business:
A.
General Education Committee Proposals, Paul York, Chair, Don
Blakeslee, Coordinator presented revised Proposed changes to
the Goals of the General Education program. .http://webs.wichita.edu/senate/GEGoals.htm They also presented a General Education Program Assessment Plan

explained Assessment and Monitoring and Outcomes. He said that 25% of WSU
graduates take all their general education here. Senator Myers asked about
transfer students. Dr. Blakeslee said that transfer students and graduate
foreign students were most at risk. After much discussion, the item was
tabled until the March 28 meeting.
B. Faculty Senate Constitution revisions -- The Constitution
received its second reading. After discussion and friendly amendments, Senator
Ross moved to accept as amended. Senator Scherz (2nd). It was passed.
