The Faculty Senate Rules Committee met several times during this academic year, though it did not meet on a regular schedule.  Much of its routine business, having to do with filling committee vacancies during the year, was handled by e-mail.

It met four times to consider requests for the formation of a grievance committee, once in the fall of 2008 and three times in the spring of 2009.   On two occasions it declined to form a grievance committee; on two occasions it determined that a complaint had prima facie merit, and grievance committees were empaneled.

The committee met in the spring to discuss and finalize revisions to the Faculty Grievance Policy (Section 5.06 of Policies and Procedures).  The proposed revised policy was forwarded to the Senate Executive Committee, which placed it on the Senate agenda.

The committee as a whole also met in March to fill committee vacancies based on committee preference forms and to generate suggestions for committee appointments.  The chair subsequently acted on these suggestions, and the recommendations were forwarded to the Senate

Respectfully submitted,

Deborah Soles

Chair, Senate Rules Committee.
